"My intention was to create a series of images inspired by the abstract concept of time and culture within the traditional African psyche and how they relate to our idea of fashion. Our African cultures are timeless which allows us to embrace our ancient forms of fashion and our modern esthetic seamlessly. Time, art and culture are not linear."

About the artist

Shamayim (he/him) is a professional photographer with a concentration in fashion, editorial, advertising, and beauty. His work has become synonymous with exotic locations and dramatic storytelling concepts.

Shamayim was honored as TIME Magazine's "12 African American Photographers you should be following right now". His work has been featured in publications such as ELLE Magazine (US), Vogue Magazine (US), Ebony Magazine, Black Enterprise, GPS Brasilia, amongst others. Shamayim's September Issue Cover feature for Ebony magazine became the best selling issue of the publication for the year of its publication. The issue featured supermodel Winnie Harlow along with several of the current top models of color.
