About the photo:

This Piece was created as a response to the death of African American George Floyd, killed during an arrest in Minneapolis, Minnesota. As individuals we usually think that other peoples problems are not our own, "its a Women problem", it's an "LGBT problem", its a "Muslim problem" or a "black people problem" and definitely "police brutality is an American problem". Police brutality and racial injustice is a social problem that occurs across the world, therefore I created this image in solidarity to the Black Lives Matter movement in USA and to raise awareness of police brutality in the UK, as no country is innocent.

About the artist:

Cameroonian born, London based Violeta Sofia (she/her), is a visual artist and Photographer, best known for her celebrity and fashion photography and political art. After moving to London from Spain, she decided to study Media at Thames Valley University and photography at East London University, before becoming a freelance photographer. Her work brings together aspects of Pop art with the combination of poignant messages and imagery. Violeta creates controversial art that discuses social issues, which might leave some feeling rightfully uncomfortable. For the past decade, Violeta Sofia has created art and photography for companies such as Harvey Nichols and Top Shop. In 2018 a transformation year for women, Violeta has been able to expand her painting practice as she exhibited her work at the Royal Academy of Arts, and her photographs continue to be published in many magazines.
